To say that we are excited about the new season of The Crown on television here at Craft Gin Club HQ is an understatement… especially as the dramatic trailer shows us that this season will introduce Princess Diana - we can’t wait to see how her story will play out in the show!

Inspired by all of this talk of the Royal Family, we thought we would take a look at their favourite tipples - it is our favourite subject after all! And what better way to enjoy Episode One than by pouring yourself the drink of choice of your favourite Royal?! Chin chin!

First up, we have the mater familia, the head honcho, le jefa herself, Queen Elizabeth II!

HRH Queen Elizabeth II: Gin & Dubonnet

Queen Elizabeth II
Gin & Dubonnet

Lizzie’s love of a Gin & Dubonnet is famed, and we couldn’t be happier that Her Royal Highness shares a love of gin with us!

And we have to say, drinking gin with Dubonnet is very much to our tastes. Dubonnet, a type of sweet fortified wine, has a rich herb-and-spice flavour profile that works brilliantly with a quality craft gin!

If you want to try our take on the Queen’s favourite tipple then you can find the recipe right here.

Princes Phillip, William & Harry: Beer

Prince Philip
Beer

Prince Philip, on the other hand, is said to enjoy something a little heavier, and his grandchildren, William and Harry, have certainly inherited his tastes too!

For these three dashing princes, it’s beer all the way. Famously, Philip is a huge fan of Boddington’s! Brewed in Manchester, it’s a beautiful, golden ale with a creamy foam top and an ultra-smooth, medium-body. William and Harry, on the other hand, are said to enjoy a wider range of beers and larger, from Stella Artois to Guinness, especially on a matchday when watching the football or rugby.

The boys aren’t the only beer drinkers in the royal family though, just ask the Duchess of Cambridge!

Duchess of Cambridge: Guinness & Dodgy Cocktails

Kate Middleton
Crack Baby cocktails

Kate Middleton is known to really enjoy a Guinness and both her and her husband, Prince William (incase you didn’t know), have enjoyed trips to the Guinness & Co. Brewery in Ireland to enjoy it at the source.

But Kate isn’t limited by her love of Guinness by any measure, she is also said to enjoy a Jack Daniels from time to time as well as the rather controversially named Crack Baby cocktail, a combination of vodka, passionfruit and Chambord that was reportedly invented at the Kensington nightclub favoured by many a royal, Boujis.

And what about Prince Charles? Well, we have heard he’s a bit of a whisky fan!

Prince Charles: Whisky

Prince Charles
Scotch Whiskey

The British Royal Family’s connection to, and love of, Scotland is no secret. Balmoral, their estate there, is as well known as they are! So it’s no wonder that Charles is such a fan of Scotch whisky.

And rumour has it that his favourite Scotch is Laphroaig 15 Year Old. Distilled on the island of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, it’s a peaty tipple with a touch of smoke and oak and a slight salinity that makes it so utterly delicious. We think he’d do well to pair it with sloe gin for a superb Smokey Martini!

It’s a glass of wine for Meghan Markle and Camilla Parker Bowles!

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex: Wine

Red wine
Meghan Markle

There are no surprises that Camilla is a wine fan. Her father was a partner in the Mayfair wine merchant firm Block, Grey and Block, after all. And Meghan is famed for having a particular love of an Italian red wine from Tuscany called Tignanello - she even named her blog ‘The Tig’ after it! It’s a full-bodied and complex wine that’s brimming with red fruit, berries, spice and chocolatey coffee notes. Incidentally, we think it works brilliantly in our unique Red Wine Gin Sour cocktail recipe!

So, which Royal tipple will you be pouring yourself to settle down with in front of The Crown? Let us know on Facebook!
